Default US Army Field Manual for the Model of 1917 Revolvers

While I was looking for something else, I found a PDF version of the Field Manual on the M1917s (Colt and S&W), "Prepared under direction of the Chief of Cavalry" in 1941.

It's pretty detailed and probably of interest to all M1917 aficionados, particularly those who are disassembling or otherwise working on one. Note the manual covers the Colt as well as the S&W.

I nosed around and found a link where you can download the PDF for free. Scroll about halfway down the page until you find the Army Field Manuals. This one is FM 23-36. The web site asks that you only download what you need, so be reasonable and respectful of those wishes.

Old timers here may already have this but I thought it couldn't hurt to let everyone know about it.

This day in history:
On September 6, 1917, the first S&W Model of 1917 was completed.
(See Roy Jinks, History of Smith & Wesson).

{I was going to start a new thread, but I thought that might be pushing it.}

Thanks, I may never use it, but I have it, if the necessity comes to pass.

If nothing else, it's nice to have the nomenclature the Army uses for the parts that make up the revolvers. Interesting reading too.

This caught my eye:
"The Colt revolver, caliber .45, M1917, and the Smith and Wesson revolver, caliber .45, M1917, are single shot, breech loading hand weapons. Each is provided with a cylinder having six chambers arranged about a central axis so that six shots may be fired before reloading is necessary."

In what sense are these "single shot" weapons? As opposed to full auto like a Thompson Submachine Gun?
