Another Pre/Postwar M&P
A few months ago, I posted my C prefix M&P snub with prewar stocks. Just got a big brother, 3/46 shipped M&P #S813740 with matching prewar stocks. Neither is what I usually collect, but I love the pair.
I need a lanyard loop if anyone has an extra for sale.

Those are very nice. Are you sure that is a post war M&P? Is that serial number post WW2. Looks to be an earlier revolver. Has the LERK too. In any event, I like em. Thanks for sharing. Big Larry

I'm a sucker for post-war M&P 5-inchers (mine shipped 12/46), but that snub still wins in my heart.

The 5" shipped 3/46; the snub 4/49. It took a longer time to use up the prewar RB stocks. I haven't lettered either one, but am considering a letter on the earlier one. Were most of the first postwar orders going to law enforcement?

No. Some were, but it appears that most of them were going to distributors for sale to the general population. Some early examples, however, went to the Cleveland PD and quite a few to the NYPD.

I thought I had an S813xxx when I bought this one but it ended up an S818xxx. It shipped in 8/46 and shoots good.

When you take those stocks off, would you let me know if the retaining washers are blued or in-the-white? I suspect the latter, but blued washers do show up on prewar stocks. I'd like to have that piece of datum for my research into the S prefix M&P revolvers.

All S prefix guns are postwar. The early SV guns shipped during the last year of WWII, but the simple S didn't appear until the war was over. The first S prefix M&P was assembled on September 12, 1945.
The barrel shaped knob lasted clear into the S87xxxx range.

That would explain my # S-987266 with the plain rod. It was shipped 4-1948. My # 683938. shipped 7-17-1940, also has the standard rod. Now my K22 # 4339, shipped 9-23-1947 has the LERK. Pretty mixed up? Thanks, Big Larry

This is my late "S" prefix, 5". I was told here that it is late'47-early'48. After market stocks, nice but I need a set of OEM for it. Great shooter....
