Default Thoughts on current pre 29 values?

Howdy folks,

Most of the last few years I've focused my collection on early pocket autos and small frame pre and post war revolvers. Recently started getting back into the larger revolvers, particularly post war N frames.

Just curious to see where everyone's opinions on pre 29 values are at these days. I've seen a few examples sit for months in the 1200-1700 range and also saw two fellows almost get into a fight over who was more willing to shell out 2k for what seemed like a nice but not extraordinary 6.5" blued example (it did have box, but no tools or papers). I know the market can be random and flukes do happen, but was interested in seeing what you fine folks' observations have been on the market in the recent past.

As always, happy shooting!

My sense is the market has fallen since Trump was elected. There may have been a downward trend before but it has definitely changed rate lately. Your best bet is to do a completed auctions search on gunbroker and see what typical pre-29's have brought recently.

At the Austin TX gun show last weekend I looked at an excellent condition 6.5" 5 screw pre 29 with very good condition unnumbered Cokes. There was a Jinks letter with it dating it to February 1957 that shipped to a distibutor in LA.

All the numbers were there and matched. The seller didn't have the box, papers or tools.

The price he was asking was $2900 but said he would be open to a reasonable offer.I handed it back and he promptly wiped it down with a silicone cloth.

I was more interested in a lettered 95%+ 3 1/2" pre 27 that lettered with the patridge front sight and target stocks. He didn't want to remove the stocks.

I picked up a 4 screw pre 29 this summer for $1600. I'd say it falls Between 92-95%. Coke grips but No case, papers or tools though. Ship date verified by Mr. Jinks as March 57. Seller came down from $1750 partly by a FTF deal. Maybe it was a bit too high but I am happy with it.
