I have many more accurate revolvers than my stock 1917, but it's 100 years old so I cut it slack. A model 25-2 or 625 would probably be better if accuracy is your goal.
I never considered the 1917 Army a tack driver, but I can keep all 6 rounds in the black at 25 meters and ring a steel plate at 100 meters. I think that was what it was designed for. I like them enough to have 4 of them. I also like my 1911.
I have never had a complaint with 1917 accuracy. And would have to say those with .458 throats I'd have to believe are the exceptions.
And no I have never shot one with the proverbial SAA problem of shooting 3" left, etc., with a center hold. Even though they have fixed sights I've always found them and all Smiths w/fixed sights to be well regulated from the factory.
My post WWII commercial model has .452 throats and is quite accurate. My sights have been modified (in the dark distant past) and it shoots point of aim at 50 feet.
