Default 30-1, 3", Nickel Now mine

About 2 weeks ago there was a local add for a S&W, 3", Nickel, 30-1. By the time I found said add it was stale by about 10 days. Reached our anyway and finally made a BTB purchase. No obvious pitting but some of the nickel was extremely cloudy. Locked up very tight, no push off. additionally it didn't appear to have been have been fired much. Serial # puts in what is probably '61. The the fun started. Took the stocks off and they are numbered to the gun. Don't believe they had ever been removed. Found a dime spot of heavy rust on the bottom of the frame under the left side panel. I won't bore you with recounting the endless hours of cleaning and polishing. Today she went back together with no left over parts. There is no apology for the ****** pics 'cause that's the best I can do. This one may be a safe queen. hardcase60

Very nice!! I only have 1 model 19 in nickel all others are blued. After looking at your beautiful gun shine I realized I need to find some more models in nickel. A 3" 30-1 would fit nicely into my collection the search begins. Enjoy that gun and at least shoot it once before putting it into the vault!

You would be doing yourself a disservice by turning that gun into a safe queen. .32's are great guns. Generally, especially with revolvers, you get low recoil, low report, and very good accuracy. I love mine. I also have two 31-1 3" barrel revolvers.

Beautiful 3" model 30! Collecting post war model marked 32s are a lot of fun and you have one of the hard ones to get. There were three blue and three nickels in both the model 30 and the model 31. Twelve total to get if you get one of each barrel length (2,3,4") and finish. Probably some rare variants beyond that, but twelve is the normal. Good luck and hope to see more!

Looking great sir. You ought to post one or two of the before pics so these fine folks can really appreciate the work that went in to making this one shine.

And did I hear there are 12 of these to get? Lol, better get to work finding and adopting the siblings!!

That's a dandy!

If you include the post war transitional models and both versions of the Improved I frame models, there's 18 more you'd need!

g-dad here is one that shows the worst clouding on the left side and the frame rust spot.

To all that have posted the Likes and Comments so far, "THANK YOU".

This is not my first .32 and I will probably end up shooting it. But she is too pretty to put in the carry rotation.

As the first pics revealed the stocks are not in perfect shape. This beauty may end up with some aged imitation ivory from Altamont or some stags.

The pics that were originally posted do not do justice to how well it really looks. hardcase60

Love the "banana" grip...I've yet to run across a J-frame wearing those.

I had one like that once, just newer. It had been fired maybe 5 times before I got it. I fired it about 100 times. It was a great shooter. Had to sell it in hard times.

I have a pair of those smooth banana grips; had them since the '70s. They fit my hand good.

That is a good looking revolver. Nice get. I seen one similar today at LGS it was blue and had a 3" bbq with a flat latch. Had some bluing loss on the barrel. They were asking $400 for it.

Thanks. Based on what you found today I should probably have trouble sleeping to night. hardcase60

Your gun is more likely from around May/June 1964. Nice score and great job cleaning her up!
