Read the "IDing your gun" sticky in one of the revolver forums..Provide the pertinent info and someone here will be happy to help you.
Post your questions in one of the revolver sections, not in the classified section.

Welcome to the forum.
If it is a S&W, you could also take a look at this thread ( To Identify Your Gun) to gather the details needed to figure out what it is. It will also tell you which forum to post those details and your question about its age.
EDIT: Camster beat me to it!

Age of .38
My father in law who passed away had an S&W .38 and I'm trying to determine age and value. The model number is M60706. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the S&W Forum.
You really should create a new thread rather than posting to one from 2017. Then your post will get the attention it deserves.
Also, you should check that serial number again. The M prefix was used on revolvers chambered for rimfire cartridges, never for any chambered for the .38 Special.

WW II service revolver. A 5" barrel in 38 S&W for Britain and a 4" barrel in 38 Special for U.S. forces.

This is also referred to as the “Victory Model”....and sometimes it is easy to become confused as to which caliber it may be as in if a new enthusiast inherits or purchases one they will sometimes assume one that is marked “.38 S&W” to be a S&W .38 Special.
Just keep note in mind that .38 S&W is the proper noun nomenclature for a shorter .38 caliber round that is not interchangeable with “.38 special” or “.38 s&w special” both of which are the same but again, different from “.38 s&w”.....
These things used to turn up for $80-$100 at local pawn shops when I was a kid in the 80’s just getting into s&w revolvers and at that time I had no interest in .38’s in general, but now these 40 years or so later, I have come to realize that .38 special for me has become about my favorite to shoot over the magnums that I chased and own....kind of funny, I realized recently that I own more .38 specials than any other caliber other than .22 rimfire followed close by .357 magnums....and then maybe 9mm pistols....
Cheers and enjoy!
