1899 w/ 4 line marcus...
Here is one of those guns I have heard about, but never witnessed. Thanks, Roy for stopping the practice.

Wow! First Model of 1899 I ever head of treated that way. That really was a misguided policy, to make such additions to possessions belonging to customers.

This topic has been discussed previously but never adequately resolved. It's simple enough to stamp a 4-line address on a pre-1923 gun's frame, as there is nothing there to stamp over. So how would S&W stamp a 4-line address over an existing "MADE IN U.S.A." frame stamp without its being an obvious overstamp?

This gun is for sale, I asked the seller for the date stamp on grip frame, he sent this picture with date stamp "7 78"
So just when did S&W stop the practice?

Even though a re-stamp of an early gun, its a neat gun.

I agree and keep trying not to bid on it. The grip is pencil numbered to the gun. couple more pictures. Very reasonable opening bid, just too rich for me.

WOW, that's the longest barreled 1899 I have ever seen. Great condition.

I would be interested in a 1899 like this because I have a 32-20 that received the same treatment at the factory. But the seller would also have to understand that this is a refinished gun and it would have to be priced accordingly.
