Default Smith and Weeson Terrier

I have recently traded into a S&W Terrier 38 S&W caliber revolver. The gun is nickel plated and appears to be unfired. The box (Red) is in excellent condition. The serial number is 74869. On the grip frame. The number on the cylinder matches however the number on the inside of the frame is 9299. The gentleman I got it from believes it to be in the ballpark of 1953. There is not a model number stamped. Any information, value, date, etc would be appreciated. I will add pics. Thanks in advance!

First, welcome to the forum!

Second you have a real dandy!

Built on the Improved I frame (coil mainspring), 2nd version ramp front sight and ribbed barrel, 5 screw, type 2 flat latch, mini Magnas, likely shipped 2nd quarter 1954.

I appreciate the information! Any idea of value? I have never seen one of these until yesterday. Not much I could find on the google box but I knew I would find info here. I'm not sure at this point if I should try to sell or keep.

For value, 1st thing to do is confirm the serial # stamped on the back of the right stock matches the gun #.

Assuming it does and since you have the box, in that condition, which does look un-cycled as well as un-fired, it's a highly desirable model. The only ones more desired are the 1st version Improved I frame with round sight, and higher than that is the 1st post War Transitional 6 screw with leaf main spring.

But I'd say, and depending on location, it's in the $800 -$1000 value range, possibly higher.

Much more detail here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/blog.php?b=103

Serial number on grip matches that of the gun. I really appreciate the information! It's a really nice gun. It's looking like it may earn a spot in the safe. Thank you.
