Welcome. But we're going to need some more information, first and foremost the actual serial number with any letter prefix, from the butt of the gun, before we can start providing some guesses. Ideally, attach some photos; "Go Advanced" below the reply window and follow the prompts to "manage attachments".
For more detailed instructions on how to provide us with helpful information, check out this thread:

Welcome to the forum. I finally figured out "automatic shell ejector" but am still working on "4 in barrel cherry grips".
Yes we for sure need more info.
But since you are new here I am going to take a guess and say you might have a Model of 1905 Change 4. Does it look anything like this?
It's the closest thing I had with a 4 in barrel cherry grips.

If the barrel caliber stamping is actually CTGE, then the gun is not a Smith and Wesson though it is designed to shoot the .38 S&W cartridge. True Smith and Wessons used the abbreviation CTG for cartridge markings.
You may have an Iver Johnson revolver, or one of several generic revolvers that were marked with different maker or brand names depending on which large commercial enterprise would eventually sell them. Photos would definitely help us nail down what you have.

I'd bet it's a break top and either an Iver Johnson or an H&R. A break top would have an "automatic shell ejector." No clue on "cherry grips" unless he means they are in excellent condition?

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! The OP may mean the grips are red wood...like rosewood. Not real common on IJ and H&R revolvers.

And no new information from the OP. I am unfamiliar with any of IJ or H&R with red wood grips. At this point we are all shooting in the dark.

Sure does sound like a top break. I'll bet it says Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works on top of the barrel.
