Dads K-38 and K-22 are now with me
Over the years I've written about these two masterpiece revolvers dad bought in the late '40's when running the family ranch. He'd been trying to get me to take them home but I'd tell him there'd be plenty of time because as long as he was here on earth they were his. Lately he'd been looking forward to meeting his maker and after a long struggle he finally passed away late August. It was a few days after the funeral and the family left that I graciously moved them from his safe to mine and they will be cherished forever.

mtnelkhntr,
I share your loss, especially as my story is very similar. My Dad passed on in early March this year. Before he got really ill and incapacitated, he gave back to me the 1948 vintage K-38 he had gotten from me "in trade" right after I acquired it over 30 years ago - he knew back then I was more interested in swapping than saving and it was worth holding on to. About 6-8 years ago I bought my K-22, also a 1948 gun, at auction, and it was obvious those two guns belonged together. Dad is gone now but I can't see any scenario where either of those guns will ever leave my possession until they pass from my hands to those of a family member. Our dads think about us and plan even when we don't notice it.

The first time I read about your dads revolvers I thought to myself now there is a man with a great attitude toward his dad. I must say reading about your dads passing made me sad for you but reading his attitude and yours made me know that you had a great deal of respect for him and he a great deal of pride for you ,and he must have trusted that you would take care of his firearms and the memories they represent .I lost my dad a couple of years ago and take his guns out and shoot them with my sons and grandson ( got my fingers crossed on a granddaughter soon ) just as he did with my granddads guns and me and my boys .This is our family tradition now thanks to my dads foresight .Thanks for shareing your story with us and keep us updated if you shoot those fine revolvers if not keep us updated when you clean them on his birthday ,fathers day ect and share some of the memories here's one from me to you.My oldest son was 7 years old and dad got out his old Arisaka rifle with bayonet ( it was a war trophy my granddad brought home ) and had my mom take a picture of my son holding that big ole rifle and dad and I laughed so hard we cried that skinny little kid holding that long rifle then I took a picture of dad holding his first grandson and that rifle across his lap that was over 25 years ago .When I opened his safe those pictures were taped to that rifle stock yea I teared up then I laughed so hard man those were good days .One day down the road you will hold those guns and tear up and after thinking probabaly do some laughing yourself .Goid luck you will be in my prayers and keep us updated from time to time .

I lost my dad in 1969 due to complications from injuries he received in WWII. He was not a shooter, but he knew that his young son was developing into a gun nut. One of the original proposals of the 1968 Gun Control Act would have banned the ownership of handguns by anyone other than police or military (thankfully, it wasn't part of the final bill.) My dad went out and bought a .22 revolver and put it away for me, so I could at least own one handgun if the bill passed. You can bet that $40.00 dollar revolver isn't for sale at any price!!!

I'm sorry, friend. Your Dad wanted you to have his revolvers. He knew you'd have them one day. He waited; you waited. When the time was right, you took them and now they are in position of honor. They will comfort you in the future when you have them to hold as he did. Your Dad has moved on, but you have something to remember him with. As you handle and shoot them, you'll smile. Because, you know, he'll be smiling too.
