Welcome to the Forum.

The 1st revolver would be around 1947. The second one would be pre WW I (I think!!!!)

We need good, clear pictures to give values.

A .38 Special with SN S 9332xx suggests you have a post-WWII S&W Military and Police model (M&P) which probably shipped around August or September 1947. SN 2627xx suggests an M&P shipping around early 1917.

More like late 1920 to early 1921 for that one. 3608xx shipped in 12/20

Sounds to me as they are just M&P38 (military and police 38) models made just before and or after ww2. They are fine pieces of old school crafstmanship. Millions were made so just take care of them with a good cleaning using modern gun cleaners/ gun oil after each time they are shot. Do not disassemble them just clean everywhere you can reach with a q-tip. Do not store them in leather holsters or put away in any confined space with any moisture. Keep dry and clean and they will be usable and maybe even cherished for many future generations.

Probably shipped in September, 1947. Could have been August.

The postwar .38 M&P with the S prefix serial numbers started shipping in March, 1946. Normal shipping had pretty much ended by August, 1948. Some refugees in the vault survived a little bit longer. The latest shipping date I have recorded is August 12, 1949, but that one is chambered for the .32 Long.

By the time you get to the S933xxx range, the extractor rod is knurled (no knob) the hammer pivot stud is pressed (not threaded) and the thumb piece is the newer style (flat on top and bottom edges). The "high speed" hammer has not yet been introduced.

The stocks should be the sharp shoulder Magna type with the postwar checkering pattern and pressed steel, blued retaining washers for the medallions.

I show both 4" and 6" guns shipping in the S933xxx range.

What else would you like to know?

Can't even guess without pictures.

Because I am in the midst of a major research project on the S prefix M&P revolvers, I would dearly love to be able to include yours in my study. Would you please be kind enough to send me a PM with the complete serial number? Thanks!

I can't get you much closer but I can bracket you.

s/n S9261xx (a 4") shipped 2/47
s/n S9447xx (a 6") shipped 10/47

also worth mentioning is that the first short action hammer was assembled on Oct 21, 1947 and it was s/n S924878.

I just obtained s/n S9440xx (a 6" barrel) and it still has the long throw hammer.

go to postimage.io

you don't even need to sign in

once there click on"choose images"

find the image you want in your computer and open it

you will then see that image in the upper left hand corner on postimage

look at the menu items below and look for "hotlink for forums" and click on the icon to the right hand side of that selection and you will see a blue box that tells you it copied

come over to this forum and in your posting box right click and select paste and

you're done!

oops, let's get a gun photo
