I just picked up a sweet older model (I think) S&W 38 Special CTG. The serial number is 6 digits C 2430** and is the same on the but, barrel & cylinder. It is hand ejected with a 4" barrel, fixed sights and 4 assembly screws

Yes. I show C236440 shipping in June ‘53. That gives you a ballpark date for yours, but remember that they did not ship in serial order.

SN C 2430xx suggests your M&P shipped around early 1954, and is of 1953 manufacture.

Thanks! I felt like it was older than I was told. It's in great shape, too. Looking forward to firing it today. Where can I find a database with manufacturing dates for serial numbers?

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Buy a copy of the Standard Catalog of S&W, 4th Edition.
