2" Pre-war M&P letter received
I received the letter for my recently acquired pre-war, 2" M&P today. It is the real deal. A link to the previous thread is below.
Many thanks to Mr. Jinks for the very prompt turn around. The request went in the mail on September 19 and the letter is dated September 27.
Matt
The 2" Pre-war M&P I didn't buy today (got it pics added 9/17)

Thanks everyone. I have a number of older S&Ws that I really like, but this one has the most "cool factor" by a wide margin.

Congratulations ! What a great looking pre war. I am fortunate to have a pre war 2 inch...but not in the super condition as yours.
May I suggest that you contact the S&W Historical Foundation and have them research your 2 inch gun now that you have the "letter". In my case they were able to find the Order Form from the company that ordered mine and the S&W Shipping Form. Great documents to have for such a rare gun.
Since most 2 inch pre war guns were "special ordered" you may have good luck finding some documents on your gun.
Its worth a try and best of luck.
Kurt

Thanks. I have been giving that some thought. Would 1930's round butt wood service grips be as expensive as pre-war N frame Magnas?

Granted, those would be correct. But, wow, the round butt service stocks from the 1920s that are on it are downright beautiful!
Here is the style Lee refers to (except these are the square butt type):

I might have a set of round butt with silver medallions that would look great on that gun. PM me if you're interested.
Doesn't it feel great when you hit a homerun like that? Here's mine with a pre war Terrier to go with it.

I think you could get some at about 1/3 the price.
