Default 3-1/2" Nickle Pre 27 question

I hate to ask these types of questions, but a local has a pre 27 3-1/2" nickle finish, with diamond magna's, diamond targets, tyler T grip adaptor and some speed loaders, for $1k.

Serial number is S1517XX. In the pictures, the front site is nickled, so I am not sure it was the factory finish. Also, the S&W emblem is not crisp, so I think it might be a refinish.

I haven't looked at in person yet - just pictures. Assuming it's OK mechanically and the finish isn't too worn, good deal, or pass?

Refinished without a star on the serial or month/year under the grips on the frame, I'd pass at 1k. I'd be a player at $750. But if its a factory refinish, or original I'd be very interested at the asking price.

No star with the serial number on the butt.

They will probabaly come off that price when you let them know you know it is a non factory refinish but if not pass the question becomes if they do drop the price do you want to put money into a shooter or are you looking a true collector grade gun . I have been looking around some and you don't find many true collector guns for sale and non cheap lol.

Refinished or not, if you want what sounds like, a high end shooting grade quality revolver, buy it. If nothing else I'm sure you could sell one set of the grips and recoup part of the purchase price.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking for a 3-1/2" model 27 or Pre 27 in good shape but as a shooter. The nickle isn't a requirement and I'd prefer a blued piece. But if it was cheap enough to acquire, I would do so. I will keep on looking. If it stays on the market for awhile, I may try to acquire at the right price.

Tom if you didn't want the Diamond targets and you could get the price somewhat lower it still may not be a bad deal. Depending on the wood type condition, and exact style and vintage. A pretty good chunk could be easily recouped.

Offer $800 OTD, sell the grips , You will at least be in a great shooter for around $550.

Hard to say without pictures, much variation in refinishes...

I went and looked at this today. Passed on it. Offered $700 but the gentlemen didn't want to move on his price at this point. It was a definite non factory refinish and has some appearance issues. It's been rode hard and put away wet. Mechanically it seemed pretty nice.
