Did you do a search on this forum? There is a long thread of information on Victory revolvers, excellent source.

Do you have a specific question? I assume you want to know shipping or manufacture date?

You already know it's a Victory Model, which was manufactured between 1942 and 1945 with serial numbers running from V1 to V811119 so yours is somewhere in the middle. Pictures are always welcome, but won't help the experts here tell you much about your revolver other than condition and possible value.

Sounds like one. Does it look like this? This one is a 5" barrel.

I do know that V52475x shipped in 2/1/44. Yours should be close.

Shipping somewhere around Feb/March 1944 is indeed likely. The only piece of additional info that could provide a distinguishing clue:

Is there a US PROPERTY GHD stamp on the left topstrap or not? That determines whether it shipped to the military.

No markings on topstrap of any kind that I can see!

Thanks again, I really appreciate all the knowledge I have been able to access at your wonderful site. Date of manufacture if available.
The finish is badly faded. Is there any way to tell what the original was? Value? just for knowledge, I have no plans to sell.

From your pictures, the finish does look like a well-worn original Victory finish. In this condition, they are fairly common and would likely bring no more than between 250 and 300.

The original sandblast Black Magic finish, a dull dark-greyish utility finish, wasn’t pretty to begin with, so you don’t have to imagine your gun to have looked significantly different when new, just more even and less splotchy. The attached photo is my V 626880, a few months later than yours and in only slightly better condition.

That ended before the Victory, sometime when war production started. Even 1941 pre-Victorys that still had commercial blue finish no longer had the B.

V 52745x would almost certainly have been shipped in 2/44. And it was probably made just before that. At that time, they were being shipped out the door about as quickly as they were manufactured. The only finish used on Victory models of that time was a phosphate, much like Parkerizing, as it was cheap and quick to apply, and performed a reasonably good job of protecting guns from corrosion. Many WWII revolvers are seen which were polished up a little and blued after the war to improve their appearance, and that is a serious defect which destroys any collectible value they might otherwise have. Yours appears to have its original finish, even though heavily worn.

I have to agree. The finish appears to be heavily worn, but original. The wartime finishes (there were several) did not tend to be as durable as bluing. At least that seems to be what my experience is saying.
