Default another Mod 10 boat gun S# 36428

My friend now thinks I'm an expert on old S&W Hand ejectors just because I posted a question about mine ( see--My boat gun).

So he wants to know when his was made S#36428 and what ammo to buy for it . It is marked "32 WINCHESTER"

Also, the trigger guard screw is missing. What size is it and does anything else go in there: like a spring, etc.

Thanks much,
Tom

The .32 Winchester model is a K frame M&P type revolver. It was serialized in a different series than the .38 M&P, made during the same period. The number you posted will date the gun to approximately 1907. The ammo for this gun is .32-20, and it is currently available in factory loads, but it isn't inexpensive.

The screw you are referring to holds the plunger and spring for the cylinder stop in place. It is not a good idea to shoot the gun with that screw missing. I don't know the length, diameter or thread pitch for it. Perhaps someone else here does. But just replacing the screw may not resolve the problem. All the parts for the cylinder stop need to be there. If the plunger and spring are gone, your friend will still have a problem with his revolver.

Better post a photo (s) of the gun and the barrel markings.

Something is wrong here.

Does the s/n on the cylinder match the one on the gun butt?

Flip out the cylinder and look on the end where you load the cartridges. Should be written on the outer edge. Sorry that I don't know the correct terminology.

Check Numrich, aka gunpartscorp, for the cylinder stop, cylinder stop plunger, cylinder stop spring and cylinder stop screw.Their parts may be reproductions?

I've only found those parts listed for other K frames so I don't know if they will fit in a 1907 model.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass, Tom! Try a .32 S&W Long. Sounds like someone swapped the cylinders. Parts may be available at Gun Parts & Firearm Accessories | Numrich Gun Parts. Also, Victory model parts on eBay should work.

Someone filed the cylinder on the front end;shortened it

it will need a new one, what a mess

Well now he knows what's wrong with it. Now he can, and will, put it under glass.

Thanks a lot guys
Tom

If the front of the cylinder has been ground down enough for the 32-20 cartridge to protrude, there should be a big gap between the cylinder and forcing cone (barrel). That gap should normally be no wider than a credit card thickness. Can you post some pictures?

I just told him the gun could not be used until major repair is done.

I don,t have a way to photograph it; nor post it.

Thanks, Tom
