1959 no dash model 15
I just purchased model 15 dated to 1959 it has non standard football grips on it now. Would this revolver have come with diamond or non diamond grips from the factory.
Thanks.

Diamond stocks were issued thru 1968, both Magnas and Targets.
Magnas were standard on Pre Model and Model 15s. Football Targets were the standard optional stocks after ~ 1955.

Your gun is a four screw K frame...they only made them a few years. The number of screws in and of themselves represent nothing substantive, but they indicate the era, and in my opinion, the four screw era was the best for Smith and Wesson revolvers. I have a four screw model 15.
What exactly do you mean, "non-standard" footballs?

Until I read Hondo's post I wasn't aware that the target football type stock were available in 1959. The football targets it's wearing now may be correct but they are not numbered.

Targets are seldom numbered. They're a universal fit since only the back strap shows, so therefore they were not fit to each revolver.
It's estimated less than 10% of target stocks are #d to the gun. Many were also bought aftermarket to replace the standard Magnas.

The use of the relieved "football" stocks began about 1956, and the diamonds stopped in the late 1960s.
