I show serial number 49916 shipping on February 23, 1911. That's awfully close to your number, so it gives you a ballpark time frame.
Are you sure of the barrel length? 5 1/2" was not a cataloged length.

Barrel length is measured from muzzle to front of cylinder.

Most likely your barrel is 6.5". Without pictures and more info, value could be anywhere from worthless to over a grand. Since you say it has a pinned front sight, does it have an adjustable rear sight? Is it round or square butt?
That serial number puts it around 1906 give or take a year.

By this serial number, the 6 1/2" barrel had been discontinued. While it is possible, 6" is more likely. The part that goes from the front of the frame to the cylinder is about 1/2", not likely to be a full inch.

No. You might be looking at the serial sequence for the .38 HE. The .32-20 sequence is completely different. This gun is more in the 1911 range, as noted in my previous post.

I list a SN 450xx as shipping in 2/10, so a 1911 shipment for yours is very possible. The 6.5" barrel length would be unusual but not necessarily impossible. Does the SN on the bottom of the barrel match the SN on the butt?

Well, as I said, it is possible, just unusual at this serial number. But parts were used until gone, so . . .
