On an auction?

If so, you'll probably be amazed at the price it sells for as well.

They can be found but few and far between. There's a chance it's been refinished as well.

They are a pretty scarce variation.

Best Regards, Les

That is a nice looking gun! But as a lot of members here know Jackthedog sells a lot of top condition guns. I am sure if you google his name you will come up with the auction site!

I was the buyer of that gun in Mark's (Jack the Dog) auction.
I can assure you it was not refinished. It's very minty (98%+).
It's one of a dozen revolvers / pistols I've bought from him.

He doesn't sell junk and never misrepresents.

An amazing acquisition!

I can remember seeing them like that when I was 12 in the '50s looking at them with my dad.

Gentlemen:

Thanks for all of your kind words. I especially wanted this one
for two reasons: (1) I didn't have a .38/44 and (2) It's a birth
year gun for me. My birthday is 12-15-1949 and this one was
shipped in October, 1949. Can't get much closer than that!

I've sent for a letter to get more details.

So is it the transitional that's hard to find, or the minty transitional ?

You know what, from all the studying and observations I have done over the last 5yrs, JacktheDog is the ONLY high end vintage gun seller that actually has the real world knowledge to back up his wares, and I have never seen him misrepresent before either. In fact, I have copied some of his info on certain models to retain for my records. If anything though, he errs on the side of caution.

Seriously, about the only "well known" seller I would trust. All those other dealers people think are so great are "posers". No real knowledge of the guns they sell, but put on a front good enough to fool everyone. It works though, and we have all kinds of "reputable" specializing auction dealers, many peddling junk.

If I was going to buy a high end item, it would be from JTD, but I won't pay the premiums required.

I'm sure Mr. Dog is a good seller...and knowledgeable. But, I won't discount David Carroll and Lee Jarrett plus others (Jim Supica when he was selling) who don't come to mind ATM. These folks definitely have the real world knowledge to back up what they are selling.

I'll second Mr. Carroll -- I've done some business with him as well.
I'm sure there are a few more of these types of dealers around.
Sadly, they are in the minority from what I've seen.
