Default What .22 LR is this?

Hello again,
Once again I am looking for information on this .22 that a friend of mine wants to sell. He seems to come up with the hard ones to put a price on. The serial number is 44xxxx range and is in pencil on the grip. Gun show is this weekend and he wants to sell it so a value would be greatly appreciated. Can’t find anything on this Gun so I don’t know where to start.
Thank you
Wade

It is a .22/32 Heavy Frame Target, informally called the Bekeart Model, from between 1922 and '26. It is exceptionally nice condition for its era and might find a good home with a Forum member. Might bring high three figures? Others here may have more specific information.

I just picked up one (SN409001, ci. 1925) for $425, which I feel was a very good deal. The price will depend mainly on how badly you want it and how badly he wants to sell it. Actually the shop where I got mine was asking $450 for the one I purchased but I was able to get him down $25. I would rate mine at good with probably 70% or slightly better finish. It's called the Heavy Frame Target because they were built in .22 caliber using the existing .32 caliber frame. I believe they were produced from 1911 until WWII.

That's extremely nice condition for a gun that is over 90 years old. Someone who really wanted a high condition older HFT for his collection would probably pay $700-800 for that. People who don't understand what makes it interesting would probably not want to go above $400 for it, so the challenge would be to find an informed buyer at the gun show rather than a guy who's just looking for a cheap plinker.

I'd guess from other SNs on my list that it shipped sometime in 1926. I'm not knowledgeable about current sales, but I wouldn't have any problem in going $500 for it.

Looks like a very nice old S&W. Check Gunbroker to see what these are actually bringing but the figures that other members have tossed out sound spot on.

If it helps, I paid $600 for a 1916 HFT that is in much worse shape than yours. It is regional as well, many areas have higher prices. I would think in my area $650+ would be a good price.
