Your 455 Mk II Triple Lock 1st Model was likely sold commercially in the USA.

If you provide a serial # I can probably pin down when and to which S&W wholesaler.

Here's mine. Made in 1922(if I remember from when I did research) Nickel plated. The grips were butchered and a previous owner put pachmayr grips on it. At some point someone replaced thumb lock. Story is someone carried it in Great Lakes area, so plate is gone in places. I shoot handloads and it is dead on. I got from my late father-in-law. He wanted to be sure I had a good backup gun. It's great when men give women "real" gun instead of a little bitty 22.

Here's my old chrome plated TL with Carved Ivory Grips. It letters to New Orleans and spent a lot of time in Corpus Christi, TX.

Pretty darn nice, not a triple lock but a nice 44 2nd Model.

It's also great when a woman appreciates a "real" gun.

That's a beautiful Target model TL.

Do you mind sharing a serial # or partial #. I keep a database to help determine what percent the target models are of the total TL production.

Thank you,

Talking Triple Locks

Over the last 10 years I have developed a passion for triple lock projects and salvaged several bound for the parts bin. It started when I found a 5" barreled receiver at an AL gun show. It has taken me down the glory path in search of parts and in collecting shooter grade TLs. The intellect and the machine skills of those men who, generations ago, produced such fine revolvers that still function at 100% is monumental. We stand in the shadow of giants whenever we shoot these fine guns. If you don't have one, don't you think its time. Here are a few from my collection!

delta-419,

Very cool. It's so great to see someone get so many TLs back together and shootable again!

Here is mine. S/N 398. It required a few repairs to get it working. Unfortunately, when I finally did shoot it, the front sight flew off, never to be found. So right now it is in the hands of a smith to get a new one installed.

Just re-entered the Triple Lock group with this 5" nickel model. Shipped in May 1913 and was returned at some point for something (I'm guessing a re-finish?). All matching numbers except for the stocks of course. There's a star on the butt, a circle P on the cylinder under the star and on the grip frame but no date stamp. The number 94 is stamped on the upper left grip frame. Otherwise the bore and cylinders look great and the mechanics are smooth and tight.

Thanks Walter O,
The grips are non-serial numbered replacements. The target conversion was done in 1947 and the customer may have ordered new medallion stocks at the same time. I have since installed a set of correct like-new original brass medallion service stocks though.

Even better, not brass, not gold wash over brass; Gold plated over brass.

Quintessential 45 triple lock and stocks, even with post war rear sight!

Since you have lettered it (and 12/12/12/ is an interesting shipping date) did it start life as a fixed sight or target gun?

Just plain cool!

The circled P means original plating; could be nickel, silver or gold.

The 94 tells us nothing, just an assembler or inspector.
