Model 17 (no dash)
Any idea on the date for a Model 17 (no dash) with a S/N of 4094XX, looked at this morning. Nice gun, diamond Magna stocks numbered to the gun. I forgot to even check to see if it was a four screw, but I believe it would be.

My best guess would be 1963. I have a no dash 17 with a serial number in the 413,xxx range that shipped in January 1964.

Daniel, that was a later shipper. THe 17-1's shipped mostly in 1961-62, mine is K426xxx shipped 61. My guess is the k409xxx shipped 1960.

Charlie,
Good point, I wonder if it had been assembled with the longer barrel and then just sat until someone specifically wanted it.

Thanks for all the information. When looking at it, I forgot to check to see if it was a four screw. Didn't think about it until later. I figured someone here would have an idea.

My bet is a four screw shipped in 1960. Nice gun. Think the screw was removed around 1961.

If it is a Model 17 with no dash number, it will have a four screw frame, regardless of the serial number or when it shipped.
The three screw frame started with the -2, introduced in 1961. However, there were Model 17 revolvers that shipped after the -2 went into production. Let's not get wrapped around the axle trying to decide screw count based on ship date. That just won't work.

I haven't 100% decided if I'm going to get it or not. I've got it on hold for a couple of days while "I hem and haw" over it. I just sold a '48 that had a lot more finish wear that I had never fired.
This one appears to be in pretty decent shape though.
It needs a good cleanup, but I think there's potential under there.
