5 screw 44 magnum weird front sight...
So I got this beauty today...these pics are pre clean-up....she looks much better now after my fluff and buff.
Shipped May 1, 1957
Nothing really odd or special....except for the front sight....looks like someone MAY have spent a lot of time cutting a plug and filling the red ramp with a piece of plain ramp?
What do you think?

I had a pre-Model 29 which shipped in February, 1957, and the red insert was shrunken and loose. I was told that was common in that era.
The previous owner may have encountered the same issue and replaced it with what you have now.

Nice gun. A lot of effort put into that sight.

Whoever did that work was extremely competent. Can you tell what method was used to retain the fitted piece in place? I don't see a sliver solder line or any evidence of some type of adhesive. It's possible that a pin was used from the top before the lines were recut.

No...can't tell from seeing it in person any better than those pics. It's actually much harder to see the plug in person than it is with a camera zoomed in on it...the person I bought it from never even noticed it before I saw it while inspecting for purchase.
