Post war 2" Model 10
Picked up this post war Model 10 snubby last week . Nice revolver, however, sometime in its life, the barrel and cylinder went a plumb color. Reblued due to holster wear possibly?... No matter, should make a nice shooter.

I have same gun , had it since 1972 its a beauty, and a keeper . You can sure re-blue yours that bright blue looks nice

Beautiful 4-screw snub and plain clothes diamond magnas!
(By the way, all Model 10s are post-war. The Model 10 came into existence in 1957.)

Despite their best efforts, sometimes the bluing starts out or goes plum over time. The parts don't look worn or refinished in the photos, nor does the rest of the gun, so I would guess original. Enjoy!

The plumb on the barrel is odd, it's mostly on the left side of the barrel....and not as bright as on the cylinder.

The plumb color is fairly common on older Smith's, and I personally do not find it objectionable, especially on such a fine looking revolver as you have pictured. I personally would not mess with re-bluing it. Of course, it's your revolver and not mine. That is a dandy looking piece! Looks very nice to me! Congratulations!

Perhaps that side of the gun was exposed to sunlight, chemicals, or was stored in contact with something? A mystery!

Here is one I acquired March of last year. It was at one time the property of the Montgomery, Alabama Police Department. I had it lettered, and it was factory marked for their police department and was shipped on August 26, 1959 to Teague Hardware in Montgomery. The shipment was for 2 units. The separation in the SN's between the two was 257 units.
Not close to an excellent finish, but fair and the serial numbers match to the right stock.

Nice Model 10 snubby. BTW, regarding the "plum" coloring, a local fella collects H&K P7 "squeeze cocker" pistols, and at gun shows is always looking for "plum" colored examples for his collection.

Different amounts of sunlight, skin chemistry, cleaning chemicals, air quality, etc. can all affect the color of older finishes. That gun looks great as-is. I wouldn't change a thing.

Plum, not "plumb", blue is not something I tolerate in a gun. If it was mine, I'd probably refinish in hard chrome.
Others feel differently, and buy what they call "shooter", "truck", or "user" guns.
You have to decide what your standard will be.
I don't buy guns I haven't handled, so I'd have seen and rejected this one. A small, powerful flashlight will let you see flaws like this in stores or at gun shows. Sometimes, the plum doesn't show unless exposed to sunlight or a strong flashlight.
BTW, "plum" and "plumb" mean different things. Although I did once see a grocer offering black "plumbs"...

The revolver was delivered to the George Cake Co, in Berkley Ca. Perhaps if you weren't so eager to focus on the word plumb or (plum) you might have picked that up.
