Default OK experts. Another round butt

Just received today. # 230842,no XXX's. 38 Special, what I believe is a M&P 3rd change, 4", round butt, with gold medallion walnut stocks that are un numbered. They are fitted to this revolver. This revolver is a good 98% with slight damage to the top strap as someone in the past 100 years, dropped it. Any info is appreciated. Big Larry

Not much to say about it larry, it is a beauty~~
It does have one of my all-time favorite S&W grips with the round butt, elongated diamonds and gold-washed medallions!

The stocks may have been numbered at some point. They penciled the numbers during that decade (the gun should place about 1914), which can be hard to detect and read. Have you tried a high-intensity flashlight shining on the surface at various angles? That sometimes works.

Larry, nice one. I've got it's slightly younger twin, 275247, same configuration from 1916. I can't see the numbers on my grips either but the way they fit, they have to be original. lee

And I have its still younger twin, #354467, shipped November 16, 1920 (and with plain round top grips), bought new by my father-in-law that same year; and carried daily in the hip pocket of his overalls for the next 50-55 years. Apparently the hip pocket of overalls provides a more friendly environment for penciled grip numbers, because the numbers on Mr. Sam's grips could have been put on there yesterday.

Closest SN to 230842 I have listed is 2326xx which shipped in 5/14. That would make it a third change. Grip style with the deep dish gold medallions is correct.

A big thanks gentlemen. Other than the fact it was dropped, it is virtually mint. A keeper for sure. Thanks, Big Larry

Tried the high intensity light. No numbers or indentations where a number would have been. The stocks are perfectly fitted to this revolver, and it is in near, as new, condition. Somehow it got out un numbered. Thanks, Big Larry
