Default Value of K-22 Target revolver

I am hoping to receive a ballpark value of a S&W K-22 with a 6" barrel 4 screw a friend of mine has for sale. I won't see it in other than picture form until later today, hence the lack of detail. What I do know is he states the bluing to be 90% and it appears to be, the hammer and trigger sound like .500 with diamond target stocks. I forgot to get the serial # and am now unable to contact him so as I said not many details. I have no experience with this (Pre-17 ?) but I have owned both a later model 17 and 18 and really enjoyed them. He is thinking it's value to be around $600 and I said I would ask the pros. I hope this is the correct venue but I thought it had to be old enough to meet this criteria. Thanks in advance for any help or comments you might be able to provide.

It sounds to be worth in that price range, possibly higher for an earlier (5- or 4-screw frame) or less depending on its exact condition.

I agree with Alan. $600 sounds good, if your description is accurate.

I’ve seen these prices all over the place depending on what year, pre war, post war, % of bluing, box with accessories.

My online dealer had these priced from $695 to $1,200 for s&w k22’s and as high as $1,700 for colts. That was a few years back.

+1 $600 doesn’t sound too bad at all for a K-22 these days.

If as described I would gladly pay that for K22. I bought a well used 1948 for $500 with incorrect stocks and thought it was a fair price.

I would agree with what has been said already in this thread... if that K-22 is actually a 4 screw and it is in 90% condition as described, then $600 is a fair price to you and him. I, like smithrjd, have a 1948 vintage K-22, in my case an 80-85% finish one bought at auction about 5-6 years ago at what I thought was a screaming deal for $425. I'd buy the gun in question in a minute if I were in the market for a K-22.

BTW, the 4 screw configuration is probably something of a bonus... it's the variation that was made for the shortest time. Not a huge premium, probably, but worthy of note.

Regards,
Froggie
