Default RIA: .455 Webley Triple Lock Sale Result from yesterday

I didn't think this one was quite as nice as the one I bought last month for a bit over $1500, and mine had a factory letter. Pre-auction estimate was $1600 to $2500, so I had to give it a shot.

S&W.44 Hand Ejector 1st Model Triple Lock Double Action Revolver-Revolver Firearms Auction Lot-404

Couldn't even get a bid in it was bid up so fast! $3250 plus 18.5% commission puts it at $3851.25! I thought I got a good price on mine, but maybe it was a great price. There seems to be a recent and significant interest in the .455 Webley Triple Lock. Maybe something to do with the Centennial of WWI?

A photograph of mine is posted for comparison.

I suppose one could perhaps suggest that maybe I am biased towards mine since I own it and not the other one. But mine has nicer grips and significant gouging is absent. Clearly the one auctioned yesterday is a decent example, but hammering at 2 1/2 times what mine did???

Live auctions get stupid crazy sometimes. Was at an estate auction recently where a Remington Nylon 66 went for north of a grand. Will say that your revolver was well bought.

Abnormally high but like chiefdave said, Auctions can go absolutely crazy. I was at the Julia auction last fall and some of the bidding was like watching a tennis match as the prices of some things just kept climbing and climbing...some for more than 70-80% of their estimated prices.

And mine was bought at auction, too. Only last month! I was a telephone bidder, so it wasn't on-site only; anyone with a telephone and a credit card could have walked home with mine.

There were a number of Reg Mags in the auction as well. Haven't seen how high they went. About the same number of RMs as 455 TLs produced.

In honor of those who fought in WW1, and the 100th anniversary of its end, I plan to fire off a salute on November 11 at 11am. I have 11 Fiocchi .455mkII rounds set aside for my TL. Also 11 45ACP rounds for my 1911.

Wasn't it Greenwich Mean Time? If so, I think you would want to fire away 6 hrs earlier.

Curiosity got me looking. History.com says 5am local time 11-11-18 when Germany signed the agreement. Officially ended 10 January 1920 at 4:15pm local time with signing of Treaty of Versailles. Final German reparations payment of 59.5 million Pounds was made 3 October 2010. Take yer pic, I'm Chootin 11-11-11 Bammer time!

To paraphrase Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett "It's 11 o'clock somewhere!"
