Default 38/44 Transitional Heavy Duty - Gun Show Find

I foolishly sold a nice 38/44 Transitional Heavy Duty a few years back, and never thought much of it.

Just recently I have been wanting one again and was regretting ever selling the one I had.

So I prayed for one.

Today, just sitting at my table at a gun show a young man walks up and notices I have a few old Smiths for sale and says he has one also.

I had to coax him to get the old Smith out of his back pack because he didn't think anyone would actually be interested in buying it.

Tah-Dah!!!!!!! He hands me an early (1946) "Transitional" Heavy Duty in really nice shape and says he wants - - - for it.

I can't say how much because it was REALLY cheap - and wouldn't want anyone to be guilty of the sin of envy.

A few dollars and several moths flew out of my wallet so fast that the friction almost set my wallet on fire!

Just one more evidence that there is a God that loves us.

Very nice. As long as buyer and seller are happy, all is good

I have always heard that once you get 'a good one' you should never let it go. Ha...

Enjoy,

I went back to the same gun show today where I bought the gun yesterday - in the snow blizzard - and picked up some stags for it.

No - its not refinished. The photos are just poor because my camera really sucks. It does have some muzzle wear and wear on the sharp edges too and one slight scratch that doesn't show up in the pictures

[/B]I had to do some serious cleaning and oiling - which you can tell by the pictures. A lot of oil film on it.

Its not perfect - but not bad for what I paid for it.

It looks much better in person than the photos show. Someday I'll get a new camera - but I cant afford one with all the money I spend on S&Ws.

I think it will be my new shooter. (Until I go to another gun show)

The genuine stag grips are among the best I've seen.

Is it just the photo, or do you have REALLY BIG hands?

The Heavy Duty does kind of look like a M&P in my hand

I do have big hands - but the photo has it looking bigger than it is, probably because it is closer to the lens than the gun.

That is funny though - good observation.

"I foolishly sold a nice 38/44 Transitional Heavy Duty a few years back, and never thought much of it."

Alright, it's time for full disclosure.

The reason I stepped into this post with my .38/44 Transitional Heavy Duty is because the original poster is lamenting his loss, to me.

We had a little discussion a couple of years ago about 'free money' and I stepped up and said I had some and I would trade it for this HD. So, I did, he did, and, we did. Bam.

He got my money, I got his beautiful Heavy Duty.

Now another player in this game is mojave30cal. He actually sold this gun to rgm36 a few years back and then rgm36 traded the gun to me for some 'free money'. Ha.

So my wonderful .38/44 Transitional Heavy Duty left Southern Utah, traveled to Fon du Lac, Wisconsin and wound up in Texas, where it originally shipped to in the first place on July 15, 1946.

And so it goes.
