A Gripping Question — Beefier stocks for a 1st Model Triple Lock?
I took the 1st Model TL out for another spin at the range yesterday. Lots of fun! But the original stocks still feel skimpy. I am not going to mess with the stocks, but if I wanted more wood under my hands, which of these N frame stock solutions would be expected to fit:
1) Cokes
2) pre WWII Magnas
3) post WWII Magnas
Thank you in advance

Pre-war magnas. Post war stocks are slightly shorter and will leave a bit of the frame, a bit over 1/16", exposed at the bottom. Just doesn't look right that way.
Actually the reason for the post-war stocks being short is the N-Frame was a bit longer pre-war. When re-introduced after WWII the grip frame was shortened slightly and the stocks were made to match the shorter frame.

Cokes are perfect. For me they feel the best. Plus they cover the butt so the longer grip frame of the TL won't matter.

If you want to dress it up a bit, put some Grashorn or Driskill elk horn stags on it. They will shape the swell of the grip panels to suit your hand. Of course, there are some fine wood carvers out there as well - Culina and Brown are a couple. I like the feel of their target grips in my hand.
Pat Grashorn elkhorn on 1917
Ken Driskill elkhorn on 38-44
Culina Grips

I second Guys thoughts.
If you wanted a grip that kept the prewar vibe and feels wonderful in the hand consider a pair of Keith Browns Roper design grips. He also has some really nice varieties of wood to pick from.
Here is a smooth set of Keith's I have on a post war gun.

I have John Culina's Magnas on my TL and on my 1917. These have a Coke profile and fit my hand very well.

When I bought my Reg Mag several years ago, it came with a pair of Cokes on it and they fit very well. Should work fine on your gun too.

That's a good idea.
I would get them in Italian Walnut though. That's what TL grips are made of and it would tie them to the TL's vintage.

If it ain't broke don't fix it -- so I am not going to mess with the original grips.
But I really do appreciate learning that the post war Magnas would be a bit short and that the Cokes would fit.

You know, some of us have original grips we keep on our guns and grips we put on them when we take them shooting.
