Hey everyone!

New to forum, also a member on 1911forum under name Gun Guy772. I am an avid recreational shooter and starting a collection as well.

Reason for post is I wanted to know if there are any reputable companies to refinish my nickel plated 43. It appears to have been done once already (maybe more), but with how beat it is I would like to refinish it at a decent price. Precision bluing and a local smith quoted me at $350......to BLUE it!!

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

Also, I am texting this on my phone. Is there a way to upload pics on here via mobile device? Thanks again.

Welcome to the Forum.

One company that does refinishing is Ford's. I've never had one of my firearms refinished there, but other forum members have. You might want to check with the mother ship as well-S&W.

From what I just read on another thread S&W is not currently doing re nickeling until sometime next year. They are replacing their vats. They are still doing re bluing.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Yes, install the Tapatalk app and it becomes easy to attach pictures.

$350 sounds about right to redo it in nickel. There is a charge for removing the old finish and a charge to reapply the nickel. A quality shop for doing this is Gunsmithing Excellence - Accurate Plating & Weaponry | Cogan Custom. Their prices are on the website. When S&W, Ruger, etc. have too much work, they farm some out to them as a secondary manufacturing facility. Bob Cogan is also known for his $$$$ custom guns.

Just fyi gents, i paid $350 for the gun. Do you think it is worth it to refinish, or should i keep it as a beater?

Maybe i could trade it for a 617 plus cash? Any input would be helpful!

Thanks everyone

Well, you will not get your money back if you refinish it. Do it if it makes you feel good. You would get your money back if you sold it as-is.
