K-22 Masterpiece with King Sights part II
Roy's factory letter (which came with the gun) dated June 7, 1988 shows the gun shipped November 22, 1948 to Belknap Hardware in Louisville KY (a major S&W Distributor at the time) but doesn't mention anything about having King Sights on it when it shipped . . . likely meaning it shipped to King after it left the factory but before 1953 when King went out of business.
There are numerous markings on the grip frame . . . can anyone with knowledge of King sights tell me if King likely put them there and cypher what they mean?

Well, I have some (little) knowledge of King sights---and more of S&W markings---AND I have a S&W revolver treated to a King Super Target conversion. With that as statement of my (limited) qualifications, I offer the following mixture of fact and opinion.
Fact: There are no markings of any kind (other than typical for the revolver) on the King Super Target conversion.
Opinion: The markings on the right side of the grip frame (the larger ones I can make out) are not S&W---none that I've ever seen at least, nor are those on the left.
As always (or at least sometimes), I stand to be corrected.

The 9 digit number along the rt. backstrap is most likely someones SSN as in 311-56-5559. 311 numbers are issued in Indiana. Being a contiguous state to Kentucky that is even more likely.

SSN for sure. That number is associated with a man whose initials are RH, also seen on the revolver's frame (RBH, actually):
Robert Hunter, 18 Mar 1905 - 1 Dec 1987, Butler OH
This is from publicly available records, so I don't think I am trespassing on a right to privacy here.

Pretty sure King's sold accessory parts to gunsmiths - as well as the general public - so those could have been installed without the gun ever being actually sent to King's shop. That would be a pretty quick and easy job for any gunsmith, or even many gun hobbyists.

That is awesome . . . thank you one and all! I was so hung up on it being a King notation that I never considered the more logical answer.
I will now undertake to learn more about Robert B. Hunter.
Thanks again,
Russ

Mark,
Thanks . . . I wasn't aware King sold their sights to gunsmiths. Yet another possibility for how they got there.
