I don't have a Victory model in the family but i think I need one. I don't know enough about these so a couple of questions. I saw one last week in a local shop, 5" bbl., 38 S&W, several British proof marks, original looking smooth grips. Serial number in the V 475,000 range with all matching numbers that I could see. Not sure if it was US Property marked or not. In very good condition. Don't think is has been re-chambered to 38 Special. Is this one worth $450 ?? Thanks in advance for any info. Doug
It would have to be US PROPERTY GHD marked, as at that time (late 1943/early 1944) only Lend-lease revolvers were shipped in the British service configuration.
If it is all-matching (check right grip panel) and all-original, not refinished or rechambered, and with only the British commercial proofs, depending on condition $450 can be an acceptable price, although it's at the upper margins.
Condition will be an important factor, also whether it has been rechambered to .38 Special. Check that with a fired .38 Special case if you have one. If the grip does not have a matching SN, that can be a basis for negotiating a lower price. Best if you can get a full inventory of all stampings and list them here before making a final decision. Also post some pictures if you can get any.
