I found a Model 17 no dash in a LGS with a serial of K3606XX. That puts date of manufacture in 1959 according to SCSW4. I would rate the finish at 90%. No box or paperwork with it. It has some scratches and scuffs that go deeper than the bluing. Grips are scuffed and scratched, but number to the gun. It’s gummy and dirty, but nothing a good cleaning wouldn’t take care of. Lockup is tight and no endshake. I don’t see evidence of a high round count, but with .22LR, I’m not sure if you would. Bore looks good and rifling is sharp. I had never stopped by this shop before, so I don’t have any idea how long it has been in the display case. He has a price tag of $800 on it and didn’t realize it was a 17 until I pointed it out to him. When he handed it to me he said it was a 14, and the strike of the 7 does look like a 4 at first glance. I apologize for not getting any pics of it. So from my description, what do you guys think would be a fair price?

I'm thinking that might be a little high for the condition. No dash 17's aren't common by any means, but condition is imperative when looking at this gun from collector value perspective alone. Based on what you are describing, I would be happier around $500-$600.

Yeah, I think I’ll keep checking in on it from time to time. It has probably been there awhile (though I have no way of knowing) and won’t be going anywhere soon at that price. Maybe if I keep bugging him and there’s no other interest in it, I’ll get it closer to my target price.

I’m gonna jump in with a question on a 17 no dash as well, apologies to the OP....I found one today in the same SN range wearing original grips that were dirty and scuffed as well. Finish was pretty weak, call it ~60% (-) with a HUGE turn line, more like a bar on cylinder like it was dragging. Finish loss there but no scoring into the metal. They wanted $550 for it. Passed on it for now, but does price sound reasonable at that price?

I doubt you'll find one cheaper these days.

About a year back I bought a 17 -? (can't remember just now ...) , a great deal cleaner than your description , early 80's build , $700. I don't know how much of a premium the no dash brings , but $800 sounds pretty steep based on your description.

That 60% gun sounds more like a $450 shooter (if mechanically good). I'd offer $400 then go up to $450.
