Year of MFG
Looking for a birth year revolver. Would model 1905 s/n S926465 be manufactured/shipped in 1948? Thanks, Dave.

Close, but no. 1947. At least on the manufacturing, since I have an S 961- that shipped in Dec. 1947. Always a chance it shipped late and out of order sometime in 1948

S860172 5" shipped Dec 1946
&
S983431 5" shipped March 1948
If JP@AK sees this he might be able to add more insight.

Something wrong with that, Larry. That cannot be an S-prefix M&P. Even without the S, it can’t work, as 987266 indicates a pre-Victory produced about May 1942.

"Burk, it is probably 7-17-48."
Is that a definite? It could have shipped that much later, but the closest I have listed is S9257xx shipping in 9/47 (4"). Barring unusual circumstances, later 1947 seems more likely as I have a double handful listed having SNs fairly close on either side of S926465 all of which shipped in 8/47 and 9/47. Guns were not staying on the shelf long at that time.

Not definite...just a SWAG. There are 60,000 units between your SN's and Big Larry's. That could have taken 1/2 year.

Sorry, I got the shipping dates mixed up with another gun. Believe me, I have too many guns. # S 987266, was shipped to Hibbard, Spencer,Bartlett & Co., 4-13-1948. 6", Blue, and checkered walnut square butt grips. It is the long action variety too. That is also in the letter.
Bought this gun from a Forum member here and am very pleased with this 98% gun. Thanks, Big Larry
