Default Saw a nice old .357 today

The range I go to has a nice used gun counter. The guy in charge of it knows I like Smiths. When I stopped in today to shoot my 624 he wanted to show me a nice older .357 in nickel. S131XXX so I'm assuming it's a '54-'55 vintage. Beautiful action, very nice condition, didn't ask if the grips number to the gun but he did say there weren't any refinish marks. My favorites are the 4" and shorter guns and I'm sure I can't afford it anyway lol. Here's a quick pic.

How much are they asking and did you buy it. That there is not a common thing to see.

Hahaha, nope-didn't buy it. He always gives me a heads up when he gets Smiths in to see if I'm interested. He hadn't settled on a price yet, wanted to do more research before he set it.

It appears to possibly have a 6.5" barrel, and in nickel...cool gun.

Default pre 27 nickel 6.5

I would love to get my hands on that one! I think it would go great with my long barrel version. Thanks for sharing the photo!

Looks a lot like my newer 1977 Model 19-4. The 6” barrels are very nice shooters. Milder kick than the 4”.

A few years ago I took the plunge and bought a nice nickel pre-27 that needed a major cleanup and waxing. Sure glad I did as 6" nickel pre-27's seem to be hard to find. It has a smooth as glass action and accurate. You can't pay too much, you just buy them too soon!!! Gary

After a PM to S&WFan, he kindly shared the seller's contact information and I bought this pre 27. I had been wanting a nickel 27 but hesitated to pay the going rate for some time. This one came available at about the same money as the nickel 27-2 models I'd been eyeing. This is not a pristine piece, but a high condition shooter, which fits perfectly with what I generally look for. It is in very nice condition and once I get a chance to clean it properly, I'll post some additional pictures. It is a "birth year" gun for me shipping in April 1955, and if it had shipped just a couple weeks later, it would have been a "birth month" gun. Price was $1250 shipped to my FFL in a new plastic hardcase. I'm thrilled to own it.
