There's another couple of documents that references the 44.
I won't steal from Caleb's well deserved limelight, so I'll save that for another thread. Just wanted to show the filled out form and observed that it didn't show the Magnas. Which the more I think on it, explains the way he set up the stocks.
From what I've learned about Marshal "Big Jim" McAlister, I don't think he'd have had a problem with "the highest powered ammunition."

I think these ropers may have finally found their proper home. They were never quite...right on any gun until now.

Should get the letters off by tomorrow. I keep forgetting to letter that NRM with the Kearsarge stocks on it. This new RM is the kick in the pants I need to get it done though.
I'm also going to have to sort out a much better arrangement for taking photographs. I'm not as happy with these now that I don't have a greenhouse to take them in. I guess I was kind of cheating with all that bright diffuse light before.

Absolutely gorgeous!
Seems like all the RMs and NRMs were initially sold to folks in Montana. Makes sense that's where they'd show up.
I just need one (right...one's too many and 100 aren't enough).
I guess I'm moving to Montana to look for a Registered Magnum (and raise me up some dental floss)...apologies to Frank Zappa.

No.
If that's the case then boy oh boy do auctions, garage sales, antique shops, flea markets, junk shops, and pawn shops have a *lot* of opportunities to void sales.

What kind of a question is that?
It was advertised for sale at a price set by the seller. Good enough for me.
The seller has tons of knowledge at his/her fingertips, they just have to choose to research what they have. If they don't want to do their due diligence then that's on them. We can't hold everyone's hand......

I was puttering around in the gun room and one of the things that has always bugged me about that other set of Ropers is that they are actually too big for me. I don't know who they were made for but they are a little hard for me to to use when I shoot an N-Frame. Must have been made for King Kong.
In any case, I was looking at another set I had on another gun, swapped them over:
And I'm holding them, thinking; "Man, these fit so much better...why did I forget I had these..."
Then it hit me.
When I bought them some years back they were pretty badly warped and wouldn't fit right on a gun.
They aren't warped now though, in fact they fit nicely.
Apparently putting them on a gun for a couple years fixed them, which makes me incredibly happy because they fit my hand much better, and I think belong on this gun. Seeing as it apparently shipped with magnas, which were not on it when I bought the gun, just a set of un-numbered service style stocks.

Pretty interesting to hear. I will have to keep that in mind if the need arises. I guess you periodically kept tightening them? Add some wood feed to make them more pliable..

I did not. I just put them on a gun that didn't have grips when I got it (or had like rubber or something, I forget) and there they rested for 2? 3? or more years. I don't recall now.
I had put them on pretty tight in the first place, I guess it was tight enough to get them to slowly straighten out.
I had honestly assumed I would have to send them off to one of the resident forum wood wizards to steam? or do some sort of magic to fix them. I was really confused when I was looking through my guns and couldn't for the life of me remember why I would put such a nice set of double ribbon, N-frame, non-thumbrest Ropers on the gun they were on.
