Default What do I have here?

1. Hand ejector
2. Serial: S 842048
3. 38 S & W Special CTG
4. Barrel I believe is 5". See pictures
5. I believe fixed sights. Gun is not with me at the moment. Again, see pictures.

It's a post war Military and Police model. Probably made in the summer of 1946.

Postwar .38 M&P with what appear to be original stocks.

Serial numbers in this range were shipping in October and November, 1946. It shows all the expected features of one that shipped in that period. Only a letter can give you the exact date.

Any idea of value?

I'm doing a valuation on some guns for an estate and this is the only one that not just a standard modern pistol.

I have bought several in about that condition over the last year or so for around $400. That is pretty much the going rate.

The M&P Revolvers (and subsequent Model 10) WERE the standard for about 80% of the twentieth century. That's why the value is so "low." It might bring a bit more because it's so nice. If you want it to have a nice home then you can try selling it here in the classifieds.
