Early Triple Lock Production: All contain 6 1/2" barrels and blued?
My unofficial observations, and could be totally wrong...
Please refer to my comments regarding cutaway Serial number 1 in another recent thread...
If we determine that this is not "true" Serial number 1 due to this being a cutaway, are my observations of early Smith and Wesson Triple Locks true? That is, all with 6 1/2" barrel and blued?
If so, I don't even have a definition of early vs not early.
So I guess my question is, any ideas as to the earliest nickel Triple Lock either by serial number or by ship date? Same thing, but with a barrel length other than 6 1/2"?
Maybe can even start with non-medallion grips as this defines earlier shipments. Anyone aware of a Triple Lock with non-medallion grips being anything other than blued with 6 1/2" barrel? I don't have to even ask about Target Models as my non-medallion Triple Lock shipped in 1910 and she has her original grips...6 1/2" barrel and not the rarer than hen's teeth nickel Target Model Triple Lock.

Yes, My dad owns serial #091 nickel target model with 7 1/2" barrel and an extra cylinder in .44 Russian numbered to match. This particular gun was shipped in 1906

I have a 5" blue 44 special in the 1800 serial range. It lettered as same and was shipped in 1913 as I recall. Gary

This is my 7.5" serial number 088. It's the first of the 1906 Triple Locks Club Guns.

Okay so my unofficial observations were possibly wrong. Other than club guns, any early production firearms with non standard barrel lengths and/or nickel? I guess we could use a cutoff of mid 1910 when medallion grips were more common ( I know of at least one non-medallion grip Triple Lock shipped well after 1910 and recently surfaced on this forum).

My earliest is #3976. I'm told it is from the first year of regular production, and shipped February 23, of the following---1909. It is all original, and carries concave, non-medallion grips, 7 1/2"barrel, target sights, and blue finish.
I'm not sure I understand the question, but that's my reply.

Okay, my theory might hold water...but only a few drops at best.
Just goes to show you the wealth of information on this forum and fallacies that can develop based on a small or regional sample size.
