Default Front sight question

I got this barrel in a parts kit. Unfortunaltely itís totally smoothbore and cannot be used.the front sight has this odd cut, which isnít home brew as it has the striations like the ramped model 10 sight. Is it anything special or?

What is the serial number? I suspect it is a "home brew" modification.

The striations can be cut with a fine file. Done it. Its home done.

It looks like a refurbished Nagant revolver barrel! Is it a S&W barrel?

It is reminiscent of something special, known as the U.S.R.A. Pocket Revolver Sight (and sanctioned for use in their matches of the same name), and to be found on some early .22/32 Kit Guns---mid to late 30's. This sight differs in that the rear facing portion of the notch on the U.S.R.A. version is vertical.

Ralph Tremaine

And the barrel most certainly can be used----to impress your friends and neighbors with your aerial target shooting prowess---just as long as you didn't tell them you were using shot shells------and you'd impress me even if I knew you were using shot shells.

A restyled 1/2moon sight I'd guess.
The lines probably all done at once in a pass or two with a metal checkering file, they're nice and evenly spaced. But can be done with simple single edge file also.

Yep, easily fashioned from the original 1/2 moon S&W sight and serrated with a checkering file.

If this barrel has been reamed to a smoothbore, that is considered a sawed off shotgun. IF there is still rifling present, no matter how faint, it is a legal barrel.

BATF-E has deemed a few smoothbore handguns as legal. There was posted a SB .44 Special that had belonged to a congressman on the forum a few years back.

Itís just a piece of pipe that is uninstalled for now. Im going to cut the front sight off just because and toss the rest. It appears to have been drilled out. A .357 bullet falls right through it
