Default SMITH & WESSON 32 LONG HAND EJECTOR

Hello, I’m new to this Collecting,

I acquired a Smith and Wesson 32 long Hand ejector

Serial#598xxx with a 4 inch barrel.

But because of the 4 inch barrel it throws me off to know what it is. If it is a post war hand ejector or a target model.

I am going to attach some pictures to see if you guys can help me out.

Thank you

Post war, made before model numbers (before about 1957), also known as pre model 30. Not a target model.

By the way, welcome to the forum. There are some very knowledgable guys here, and I'm sure that more will drop by. Welcome to the world of Smith and Wesson as well.

Looks like it may have been reblued. These are generally great shooters, and the ammo is still readily available. Have fun with it.

Best Regards, Les

Welcome aboard from Wyoming.

Nice looking little .32 HE. I agree with Les about the reblue.

Yours being a 5-screw with the half-round front sight throws me off a bit for a serial number that high. I have 637539, which is a 4-screw, shipped on June 1, 1956, and it has the ramp front sight.

Does the bottom of the barrel (under the extractor rod) have a serial number that matches the sn on the butt?

Careful, these little .32's can get addictive. Nice pistol, mine 631XXX ,was shipped Oct.'55 and has the ramp sight. Yours was probably made right around the sight change timeframe, others more knowledgable can help.

That's certainly a beauty! You have a .32 Hand Ejector Improved I frame, 1st version with round sight.

It is indeed one of the early 4" barrels, a recent change at the time from the old 4 1/4". Usually these had shorter 2" barrels but 3" and 4" were options, even some rare 6".

Based on the serial # it very likely shipped in very late 1952 or early 1953.

Welcome to the best gun forum I've ever found. I hope you'll stick around.

I'm envious--thar's a sweet .32.

Thank you for those photos. No factory re-finish or date stamps on left side of grip.

But it is re-finished and a fairly nice job, just not as good as factory at some edges and the screw holes. The I frames of that period were satin finished only, but yours is a shiny blue which is nice, just more black than blue.

Shoot and enjoy that one, they're a lot of fun, especially for kids and wives.

Baja:

You will find some of the most knowledgeable people in the world on this forum when it comes to Smith and Wesson’s. For example, Hondo44 is an expert on the “I” frames, which is what your gun is, and wrote the section of the 4th edition of the “Standard Catalog of Smith and Wessons” dealing with the I frames. This is a book that would be good for you to have, if you like Smiths. (Hope I didn’t make you blush, Jim).

The point is that there are many very talented folks here who are willing to help each other and you. Good place to be. You will learn a lot here. Very friendly and family safe as well. A very cordial place as well.

Best Regards, Les
