455 HE 2nd Model
Picked this up for a project. All numbers matching on the metal parts, nothing discernible on the stocks, and still 455.
The most notable thing is it smells like it just came out of the holster for the first time in 102 years. The lockup is insanely tight, timing is spot on and trigger pull is heavy (I'm guessing super gummed up internals).
But seriously, this thing smells like a greasy tank.

Well, you'd have B.O. too if you hadn't bathed much in the last hundred+ years! 
It looks pretty good to me. I sincerely hope that "project" means "restoration project" not "conversion to a 3 inch Fitz" or the like!

Did perhaps some well meaning soldier put "tank" axle grease inside it for lubrication? You do see some strange things on old revolvers.

If your going to do a conversion or modification to suit your wants, please don't use that gun as a basis for it. To nice and the caliber and bore are not really right for it. Would work for a 45 colt, but you would need to run .454 bullets.
I have done several conversion guns, but, my 2nd model 455 remains stock. Some Brazilians and a 1917 have not.
I suggest you start with something like a Brazilian if you want a 45 ACP. Way more common and most of them have lost their beauty. If you want a 45 colt pick up a 44 mag cylinder and ream and fit it. You could even have a N frame 357 or 41 mag cylinder reworked to 45 colt. 35y cylinders won't take the longest 45 colt bullets, but then neither will an adapted 455 cylinder.

Now wait just a minute. The .44 Mag. cylinder is nominal 1.74" long, while the .455 Second Mod. cylinder is nominal 1.58". You would have to shorten the .44 Mag. cylinder, or you would have to re-work the rear of the .455 barrel to accommodate the longer cylinder.
I heartily agree that the OP should not do a job on this nice .455.

Its not that hard to shorten the barrel portion that extends into the frame and recut the forcing cone. I wouldn't do it on a nice 455, but would on a Brazilian or beater 1917. I have 2 629-1 I made into 45 colts by reaming the cylinders then installing 625 acp barrels by shorting barrel extension and re cutting cone.
I have a couple of Brazilians I am going to rework, but I am going to fabricate the barrels out of barrel stock and sell the original barrels because 1917 style 45acp barrels are very hard to find.

I guess I should have noted I love the smell (that may sound weird). It brings to mind old military equipment. Imagine walking into an old surplus store except bring up the intensity.
If anyone knows where I can find a similar condition/completeness pre war N Frame with lanyard ring that’s a better candidate and <$500 please let me know.
