Now folks, you have to remember only two things----maybe three.
1. It is clearly possible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear---or at least pretty close.
2. It takes all kinds---and whether you want to be one of those kinds is entirely up to you.
3. Naw---two's enough.

Mississippi Highway Patrol has always ordered 5" RM's, pre 27's, or 27's, before switching over to 686 for a short period and then bottom feeders in the 80's. The governor and a few other higher ups always got a S&W, not necessarily what the troopers carried. I know where a 3 1/2" 27-2 nickel is that was given to Governor Paul B. Johnson Jr. (the second governor by that name, his father was the first). The last I saw it it was in the glove box of a pickup owned by one of his relatives. It needed some TLC. He wouldn't sell it.

Years ago, the city that I worked for had an auction that included a bunch of guns that had been found, confiscated, etc. I saw folks bid more for a Raven .25 ACP that had deep scratches on it than a new one cost. The auctioneers keep shouting "Bid high!" and people did!
The worst though was when a hard used Daisy Model 94 BB gun was put on the block. This was the model that resembled a Winchester lever action Model 94 .30-30. The auctioneer told the crowd several times that this was a BB gun, not a real firearm. It went for $100!!! When the high bidder went to pay for it, he realized what he had actually bought. The bidder was allowed to refuse the sale and the Daisy went back on the block. Again, the auctioneer cautioned that "This is NOT a real gun!".
This time the Daisy went for $115!!!!
I left. It was time to go to work.

Only one of the issues was how much the gun sold for - the other issue was the complete misrepresentation of the gun.
While it is nobodies business to judge another mans wealth and what he might pay for something (beauty is in the eye of the beholder)- I believe we can judge an ad that left out an "awful lot" of mighty important information. (The wrong barrel and the chopped grip frame)

In addition,
If you also consider that it might be a new person to S&W revolvers and with a limited knowledge. You would rely heavily on that so called "reputation " from "the boys".
That's what really is being questioned here, not the selling price. They presented that gun in the very best light.
Was it truthful?
Obviously not.

Gun trading is kinda like horse trading...If you want to be good at it,
you're gonna need a few bought lesson in order to learn the art of judging what your dealing in.
The written sales pitch is of little value in any arena...
It's the prancing pony in the ring that's selling.

GB auctions can be absolutely crazy sometimes with seemingly no rhyme or reason.

Typical over excitement for an item being sold by a "popular" online dealer. Nothing new here. Just feel bad for those buying with the expectation of future returns.

Hoover3 strikes again ... or did he ?

It's all about the desire! It doesn't need to be sensible. Hoover3 may have bought 10 years early. Or a factory letter demonstrates that it was an excellent buy, just not at my house.

Just makes you wonder what the heck is going on sometime. Not accusing anyone of anything improper, but you use you own common sense.
I advised the legit bidder (the other high bidder that was not Hoover 3) who I feltwas being run up the proverbial flagpole by Hoover3 ...
If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck ... then it must BE a duck !

Check out Hoover3’s feedback as a buyer. Seems he is buying every RM he can find... and from a few of our fellow members.

People are going goofy, crazy over Registered Magnums, and, If I had the money, I would be as well. I used to feel that there would never be the equal of a first generation Colt SAA in blue steel with ivory grips, but I stand corrected, the RM is more desirable to me at least.

Unless I luck into one at a pawnshop for $500 I fear I may never have one...was watching one on GB tonight...even put in a bid at $3400 figuring I had no chance. I didn't. It ended up about twice that figure...as much as I would like to have one you can get 2 to 3 pre model 29's with cokes for the price of a single RM....

Just remember the ole horse trader. He sold a horse and said, he dont look to good. The buyer came back and said, that horse is blind in one eye. Reply, he dont look to good. If you get into the big boy hobby of buying RMs, be well educated in the field. I dont condone deceit or sketchy descriptions. Ask the seller questions till he gets sick of hearing from you. And dont buy sight unseen.

When you say sight unseen ? Do you mean have the actual gun in hand and inspect it person before you buy it.

All this discussion about how "low IQ" the buyer is forgets that some folks have $8K as available as the coins that fill the ash tray in my 9 year old truck. I personally know a fellow that if'n he wanted that gun he would bid higher yet, until he got it. Joe
