Those non-relieved diamond targets are really nice. I think most of the pre-26s left the factory with magnas. Curious about the SN and if there's any marking on the inside of the stocks. Don't see them for sale very often where I shop. Enjoy.

My pre 26 also came with non relieved targets. I think they are worth quite a bit more than the diamond magna stocks They also feel so good in the hand. Look great, too!

There is a slight possibility the grips are numbered. Typically Smith didnt number target grips but they did on some either 1950 or 1955 Target Models.

I acquired one back in February. Below are pictures of mine and the 2nd page of the Historical Association Letter. Congrats on your new revolver. You don't see many of them.

Yes, I will get this one lettered too. Now if I could only find my other letters. Sounds like the search for them will be on, come the next rainy day!

Congrats on the rare* Model 26 acquisition with very nice Targets! My single example in the S79,3xx (1951) era, happily owned!

*Taking an opportunity for airing a long held personal “disproportionate rarity” perception concerning the 26/pre models. Less than 2800 produced. Obviously, not ‘common’. Yet five decades collecting, hands-on encounters with this model far less frequently than even those low production numbers should suggest. ‘For instance’ comparison. Half such production numbers in the Model 21/pre. Personal experience perception of perhaps five to one, ‘21’ to ‘26’ gun shops/shows ratio observations. Only to qualify, not following Internet sales and unable to comment concerning such forums.
Would appreciate knowing whether others with similar impression or…
Just my take

Mine is my favorite revolver. It also lettered with the target grips. Now to find it's twin, the same revolver but in .45 Colt. I saw two in Tulsa for only $11,000.00 and $12,000.00 each.

Very nice gun donadler. I bought this one late last year. It had later era incorrect stocks on it at the time. I assume that it shipped with Magna stocks. I traded some other stocks to a Forum member for these non-relieved Target Stocks of the appropriate period.

The total production of the 1950 45 Target revolver is 2768, so you don't see that many of them. It was discontinued by S&W in 1961.

It appears to a target trigger, also. Most have the narrow one. Mine has the target trigger as well. Yours is the only other one I've seen with that feature. BTW, of the five 45acp revolvers I own, the 1950 is my favorite shooter.

Right after I acquired mine, I looked at the SCSW both the 2nd Ed. Copyright 2001 and the 4th Ed. Copyright 2016. The price guide of the 2nd Ed. stated in Excellent Condition $675.00 and the 4th Edition stated $3,200.00.

That is a fair jump over 15 years.

I sold mine because it wouldn't shoot well with lead .45 AR ammo.

That was in the late 1960's. Had I realized how rare they were, I'd have hung onto it and sold to a collector.

Confused, a bit.

Right grip is numbered to gun. In pen. But the left one is also numbered in a white pen of some sort.

Grrrrr.....

The right stock on mine is stamped as shown in the picture in post #12 above. I think later on they were stamped in a single line toward the bottom of the right stock. I have not seen stocks marked the way your stocks are printed and not any marked on the left stock. Maybe others will know better.

I am far from an expert, but after reading page 40 of the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" 4th Ed. it seems to state written serial numbers on the right stock stopped around 1929. I have both an early wooden stock where it is hand written in pencil and an early hard rubber stock where it was scratched in.

I've kinda got one of those. It is a 54 vintage 5" 45 ACP with a 45 Colt cylinder to go with it.
