Need help with value of 32 long HE
I had some time to kill this morning be tween doctor appointments so I hit two of the local pawn shops. In one of the shops I see what at first glance looks like a mint 32 I frame revolver. Second glance says no way the stocks are original so I ask for a closer look. Tag they had on it says 1990 32 long. Well I'm about as far from being an expert as you can get but I know that can't be. After I finish my second appointment and get home I check my SCS&W to confirm what I think it is. It's a model of 1903 5th change with a 3 1/4 in barrel that's been refinished. If not for the factory marks on the grip frame and bottom of the barrel I would have a hard time saying for sure it had been refinished. Hammer and trigger still show case hardening, cyl locks up tight, chambers look good, minor pitting in barrel. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on value

Nickel or blue? What's the ser. number? What makes the stocks non original ? We need more info. and some photos to give you a valid estimate. Presently I can guess it's between $175 & $350 as a shooter, maybe. Ed.

Ser. number is 117432 stocks are a no diamond design like would be on a modern J frame. Sorry about not having pictures but the only pictures I have are very poor and on my phone and I don't know how to post them from my phone. Thanks for the reply Ed I was thinking $300 max so your numbers let me know I'm not to far off. They are asking $500 so I don't think I will be able to make a deal with them. Thanks again for the reply.
It is blue.

Yeah, they're asking $300 too much for a refinished .32 HE. If your phone is a smartphone, get the Tapatalk app. It will make reading and posting to the forums easier. Here is a .32 HE from ~1924 with the type of grips that likely came original on the one you are looking at.

.32 HE 117432 was made May 31, 1910, as part of a production order for 100 blue guns with black hard rubber stocks. $500 is a wild dream. Ed.

That is a nice refinish but it won't raise the value much. These old .32s like that sell for around $300 around here unless it comes with the box.

That's a little beauty. I'll say one thing, those grips are a big improvement for shooting.
Although some collectors may shun the refinish and the associated reduced value, that factory refinish is every bit as good as the original finish. It's a new looking gun that you don't have to be worried about shooting and enjoying!
You might politely help the seller understand what it really is; refinished, wrong grips, and misidentified. If he doesn't budge on price, let him keep it another month or two and then revisit him.
I'd go $400 out the door on that one. Factory refinished guns in this great condition are kind'a scarce.

I have a hand ejector in 32 cal with a 2" barrel. It's darn near 100% and I'd hesitate to sell it for $400.

I wouldn't sell mine for less than $600. The 2" 32 Hand Ejectors are awfully scarce, especially the Post War Transitional. They weren't made until after the war.
