Default Thinking About Finish Challenged Baby Chief

Looking at a Baby Chief incorrect grips, smooth ramp sight, 5 screw, earliest flat latch serial number is in the 8900 range finish is probably around 70%. What would be the most I should spend I would like to have it even if it isn't in top condition. I just don't want to spend too much.

SCSW4th says $275 in 'Good' condition with a 50% premium for the round trigger guard and ramp front sight. So, $400 +/- ?

I thing Guy is right on. The correct grips can be a bit hard to find as they are the I frame grips but don't seem to be expensive. I recently sold a 'baby' with a number of hammer dings for $350 to a dealer.

I have not yet bought the newest SCSW but the how to use our price guide section in most books write that the add-ons for collector features should be reduced in proportion to the condition value and / or ignored for shooter grade guns that are not rare.

Our I frame expert, Hondo44, wrote that after shortening their bottom J frame Magnas are hard to distinguish from I frame Magnas. Considering the condition, shortened Js would be good enough for me. More likely I'd just use after market stocks than fit me better.

Based on what I can see in the photos, that one looks like a fun one to me. It's not new and pristine, but it has that been-there-done-that look that I find appealing. I would expect fair pricing to be in the low to mid $300 range.

My thoughts on what I'd be willing to shell out...

Good luck,

Well I am out at over $400 by the time I pay shipping, taxes, and transfer fee...No way I could justify it. Not to mention buying correct period grips.

I believe you're right to pass for $400.

There's too much wrong and not enough right to justify that price.

I'd put that one in the low $200s range.
