I have S1703xx, a 4" which shipped in July of '57, just past my 11th birthday for which I received a Remington 511.
Congratulations!

That is a nice 1! Never had a birth year gun. My 4" nickel 29-2, is my graduation from high school year. (born 1953) Bob

Great gun, mbliss57. And great guns, everyone else.
1957 was a great year. Chrysler came out with the Forward Look designs by Virgil Exner. Ford's new styled full sized car was very popular with the car buying public, and outsold all other US makes. In 1957, DeSoto was the first American car company to offer an engine that could produce one horsepower per cubic inch (345), followed shortly thereafter by Chevrolet's innovative (but short-lived) fuel injected V8 for '57, which accomplished the same milestone. Ferrari raised their level of dominance in sports car racing with the introduction of their TR.
I'd like to buy a 1958 (my birth year) Ferrari, but I don't think I can find one for under 1000 bucks, so I'll probably look for a cool old revolver instead.
Congrats on the new old gun.

Great gun! I wish I was young enough that any 44 Magnum would have been produced in my birth year.
