Default Twin Baby Chiefs, not identical

I finally snapped some photos of 99 and 6855, which I picked up at the Wyoming Weapons Collectors show Memorial Day weekend.

It's quite an honor to have a two-digit serial numbered Chiefs. 99 has a half-round front sight and what I believe is truly the first style flat latch, which is different than what's commonly referred to as the first style. All the numbers match.

All the numbers match on 6855, too. It has a smooth ramp front sight and what's commonly referred to as the first style flat latch.

My second post here will show the latches up close.

Cheers

Now, that is the cutest little set of twins I have ever seen. Nice snag.

If you flip it over you have an even lower SN.66. Fantastic finds, thank you for sharing. I have never seen the difference in the early flat latches.

Gotta love those half moon baby chiefs. Mine is 3 digit but still a treasure to me. Well done, sir.

Great acquisitions!!

Earliest style Chief latch (same as 1966 and later):

Chiefs # 90 has this latch and rd top service stocks. Towards the last of the first hundred Chiefs, both this latch and service stocks are interspersed/transitioning with the 1st flat latch and mini Magnas.

Congratulations, Bob...I think that you had done a little pictorial of the flat latches before you obtained 99. Maybe you could revise it with this new information. ...??

Thanks for sharing with us. How the heck did all those Babies get out there in Wyoming??? Must be those long, cold winters!!

Best Regards, Les

Thanks, Les.

Yes, I have plans to redo my flat latch study. This time I'll type the info instead of showing off my chicken scratching.

I'm not sure how 6855 got out here, but 99 came from Alabama about 10 years ago (don't know if it had a banjo on its knee!).

Cheers, Bob

Thanks Jim,

Yeah, it's not likely I've ever own one with the service stocks or old latch, but it gives me something to dream about. Sort of like talking the other Jim out of his square butt Baby, eh?

Very nice pair
I would have expected a Baby Chief with serial 99 to have service stocks but dont follow Baby chiefs closely.

The smooth ramp version is a neat and not commonly encountered version as well

Ah, yes, they do seem to have wanderlust.

My daughter lives in Billings so when she inherits all these things it might find its way back to Mont.
