SPECTACULAR IVORY (DOUBLE EAGLE) N FRAME STOCKS
Acquired these beauties at last week's S&W Symposium in Reno. They are truly spectacular and my poor photo's don't do them justice. Pictured on a .44 Magnum, I still haven't decided what revolver they will finally end up on.

Wow that is a great find ,if you don't mind asking what would a fellow have to pay for grips like those ? If you don't want to say its alright I won't be offended just wondering .I also wonder how much confidence an artist has to have to start carving on a set of ivory grips .Love your peace sign also .

I'll bet RKMesa has a gun they'd look good on. Say, a 100% engraved pinto Model 29. So, now you have to get a P. Quigley engraved work of art to match those exquisite grips. Dang, this hobby chews up my retirement fund.

Love'em Jim. Wow.
Another reason to Join the SWCA and attend the annual meetings. I got these last year at the meeting in Charlotte. EDIT. That was the meeting in 1975, pre-ban.

Now, that is a work of art, accentuated by the eyes!
I would like to have ivory grips but due to the scarcity of
Ivory I would like to hear from others who have tried the faux ivory or plastics to know how they like them. Are they reasonably attractive or too “cheesy “ for areal S&W?

If they are not faux ivory I'd be extremely careful and never offer them for sale if you don't want a felony conviction. Read the US Fish & Wildlife Service website comments on ivory and CITES.

From the US fish and wildlife svc website:
“We listened carefully to the legitimate concerns raised by various stakeholder groups and, as a result, are allowing commonsense, narrow exceptions for musicians, musical instrument makers and dealers, gun owners and others to trade items that have minimal amounts of ivory and satisfy other conditions,” said Ashe. “These items are not drivers of elephant poaching and do not provide cover for traffickers.”

Boy those are purdy. Nice. Who says they have to remain on one gun? I'd rotate them until I got another, then it can enjoy retirement...

You can still legally sell them, you just have to follow the law and sell them accordingly.

You know I appreciate someone going to the trouble to say the above and even put it into writing but you all know as well as I do that an individual officer on a bad day and interpret any law just about any way he/she wants. I once had a fish and game officer give me a hard time and just short of wrote me up for a single great horned owl leg/claw that meant a lot to me that I had hanging from the rear view mirror of my old Toyota Landcruiser. I know that I should have said "Yessir, I will remove that from my rear view mirror right now sir." BUT NOOOOO.....

I had more folks talk themselves into a ticket or a jail cell than any other reason.

Yeah man....Just couldn't accept right over reason. In the end after I cooled off he mentioned seeing my VSM bumper sticker and then we had the old "What years were you there?" thing going and I got off with a solid warning and the obvious ramifications...the "claw" sits at my reloading bench, outa sight.
Back in the mid 50's my little country grandma decided to take up taxidermy, she was a very good self taught artist. She did all sorts of dead critters, those she found dead and those she made dead. One day she came around a bend in the road and saw a large dark lump in the snow off to the side, she pulled over and found it was a fully mature bald eagle. She did not know any of the laws regarding raptors and only saw an excellent body of work. She did a beautiful full mount of the eagle on a broom stick perch, I was only around five or six at the time and all I remember was how big and impressive he was. Anyway grandma had a friend in the local fish and game warden who allowed her to keep and maintain a Lynx cat she had dropped off when it was a kitten, he would drop off a road killed deer or two when he had the chance to keep the cat in fresh venison. He came into the parlor, saw the eagle and promptly told grandma about the rules...if I remember the story right she agreed to letting him take it under the condition it would not be destroyed, that was never her intention. I believe it ended up residing over the judges bench or something like that.

RESIN IVORY
It’s the very best I’ve seen for far less in cost. These are Randall knives refitted with resin ivory by Rick Bowles, a Colt collector. It even has end grain or 'Shreger lines' of genuine ivory.
See the supplier here: Resin-Ivory™ Finished 1911 Grips
A distant 2nd choice is Eagle Ultra Ivory. They also have a grain which simulates real ivory and much more realistic than any of the bonded ivory or polymer ivory: 404 error - Eagle Grips, Inc. - The World's Finest Handgun Grips ... 67&x=7&y=6

While I have never had any in hand, I understand that grips made from american holly also look a lot like ivory.
