.38 S&W bore
Rather than drift the .455 thread, is there anything in print on the bore size on the .38 S&W barrels that were built for the British Service Revolvers?

“The S&W Specification sheets I have for guns produced during World War II and before list the bore diameter for the .38 S&W and .38/200 cartridge as 0.350 - 0.3512 with a land width of 0.1059: the .38 Special barrels are listed as 0.346 - 0.3472 with a land width of 0.1034. Both barrels are five land and groove with a twist of 1 in 18 3/4 inches. I hope that this answers your question.” Roy Jinks

Which, IIRC, means that the bullet size, instead of .357", is .359". I could be wrong, but that's my memory of prior discussions here. Someone who is more knowledgable (a low standard in this case) will likely come along shortly to address this correctly.

Bore is .350? My ignorance is showing because I would have sworn the 38 S&W bore was .361". That's the diameter of the bullets, anyway. I guess that's different from the bore size?

Yes the bullets are .361". But the bore diameter (distance between the lands) never matches the bullet size, that's the groove diameter.

For example: .38 Special barrels are listed as 0.346 - 0.3472
The barrel is bored to .346, then the grooves are cut. So for a .357 bullet .357-.346=.011 .011/2=.0055 the depth of the groove cuts.
A .350 bore with .0055 grooves depth would end up at .361
