Pre-Model 10 Gold Box Value?
I got this box along with an older .38 M&P 4th. I paid extra for it on top of what I felt the gun was worth.
Just wondering what the value would be I see the newer blue ones going for around $100 on EBay. Not seeing any of these for sale.
Thinking of selling it as it’s only right to be with the correct gun. My other and more likely option is to find a pre M10 to go with the box
Thanks for any help.

It’s in nice condition but I would guess its value to be in the range for the blue boxes you have seen. Are they being listed or actually selling at $100?
Good idea on finding a nice 5” .38 M & P to fill it too.

That's a nice box. Keep it and find a nice 5" postwar M&P to go with it. You will be sorry if you sell it. Big Larry

Is there a serial number on the bottom, probably written with a grease pencil? That was the normal practice. It would help to narrow down the date it shipped. These boxes were used from c. 1947 until sometime in the mid-1950s. So the gun could have an S or a C prefix.

Boxes, boxes, we are now paying $100 for a gold mod-10 box?
I will admit, I have lots of boxes out in the shop. Full of grips and parts.
But a C-note.

I asked the seller that and he said there was nothing there. I don’t have my hands on it yet.

I’m a collector so I like to have the boxes, tools, paperwork whatever I can get my hands on. If it were me and I had a pre model 10 I’d pay $100 for it. I actually paid a bit more than that so I’ll most likely hang onto it.

I think the gold boxes for the guns with 2 inch barrels might bring $100, or ones for a nickel finished gun. I think $75 is probably closer to the value for a blued longer barreled gun box. JMHO.

I have a couple of them where the writing is very faint. Someone might not see it, even if it is there.

That’s what I was thinking. When I get it hopefully I’ll see something to narrow it down.
I guess like anything it’s worth what someone will pay.

Come out from under your rock........
I have a 4" round butt blued M&P that I've been trying to find an original box for, been several years now. I would gladly pay well north of a c note for one!

I had no idea the boxes had this much value. I I received these two beauties from my dad, which were passed down from his dad who was the original owner.

That’s great your dad kept the boxes I also keep the boxes for all new guns I buy plus paperwork and packaging. I’ll be saving someone in the future from trying to find it.
I think having those boxes adds more value to the guns as an overall package than they do separate.
